Debbie Smith (Right) along with her daughter Danielle & Luis Gonzalez at SSR 2014
Debbie Smith has been the driving force behind this annual effort to raise funds to support those fighting Parkinson's and their families.  In March of 2013, Debbie was diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease. Other than Michael J. Fox and Muhammad Ali, she didn’t know anyone with the disease and felt very much alone. The doctor started her on medications, told her to get with a support group, and recommended Banner Neuro Wellness - Gilbert (BNW). BNW welcomed Debbie with open arms, and gave her a reason to hope, keep active, maintain socialization and work for a cure!

With the help of Debbie's husband Brian and the Knights on Bikes, they are happy to be hosting the 4th Annual Shake Rattle & Roll Motorcycle Ride for Parkinson’s to benefit Banner Neuro Wellness.  Volunteers for the event are people living with Parkinson’s and their caregivers, family and friends connected to BNW.  Banner Neuro Wellness offers a state-of-the-art program that compliments the medical treatments and therapies for individuals and families affected by Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions. By utilizing PWR! Fitness Training — developed by Becky Farley, PhD, PT, Banner Neuro Wellness offers Exercise4BrainChange — which applies principles to optimize brain repair, brain recognition and skill acquisition for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease.

If you or your family know anyone affected with this disease, you know the struggles they find to have a quality of life as the disease progresses. Studies show exercises that specifically address the symptoms of PD can enhance a person’s mobility and quality of life. I am proud to say Banner Neuro Wellness programs addresses this.
